Miasma is officially open and accepting character applications! Our community will remain closed for now, but we plan to open up invitations to other writers in a few weeks. With this decision, however, keep in mind that things here will be extremely slow plot-wise. Have patience for your fellow writers and enjoy your time with each other. Aside from that, a few other notes we'd like to address are outlined in our Discord announcements.

If Mauti were truly a spider, all eight of her eyes would have widened slightly as she witnessed the fox's unexpected counterattack. Concern etched its way into her features and she instinctively took a step closer, torn between her hunting partner's well-being and the risks she herself was willing to take.

While she was initially more concerned with her own safety, a flicker of doubt crossed her mind. Magnus had shown faith in her, she remembered. Had believed in her abilities when she didn't. Perhaps there was more to him than met the eye, she thought. Maybe he deserved a chance to prove himself. And certainly, he'd be more open to satiating her curiosity if she didn't leave him to make an embarrassment of himself.

With a moment of clarity, Mauti made her decision. If Magnus had been willing to extend a helping paw to her, she would do the same for him.

Maintaining a cautious distance, she carefully observed the fox's movements, analyzing its strengths and weaknesses. Magnus had perhaps underestimated the creature, but she wouldn't make the same mistake.

Then with a swift and calculated movement, she lunged forward, aiming to sink her teeth into the backend of the fox's spine.

Mauti, to his surprise, leapt to his defense. Or, perhaps she just didn't want to see their quarry risk an escape. Whatever the case, her grasp flew wide, but it was enough to earn the fox's ire. A bit panicked at the thought of Mauti receiving a bite of her own-And entirely intending on ripping the meal limb from limb for fighting back-Magnus lunged forward, trying to tackle the fox to the ground for a more decisive victory to be wrought from blood.
