Miasma is officially open and accepting character applications! Our community will remain closed for now, but we plan to open up invitations to other writers in a few weeks. With this decision, however, keep in mind that things here will be extremely slow plot-wise. Have patience for your fellow writers and enjoy your time with each other. Aside from that, a few other notes we'd like to address are outlined in our Discord announcements.

Following her encounter last year, Feniea had been spending a lot of time alone. She longed for the companionship that Kärlek had brought her and wondered quietly how he and the children were doing. She'd been a real bitch to ditch them, hadn't she?

Yet she had gotten what she wanted. Guaranteed safety from the man who had assaulted her. Had she come to terms with the assault? Hardly. But she felt fine now, and that was really all that mattered to her.

The desire to build her empire in the land of her birth had been snuffed out like a candle as morning approached. She sat where she was in the forest beneath the pine tree, her paws neatly all together, her tail draped over them. Her sharp yellow eyes peered into the forest ahead of her as if it held the answers. As if another wolf would materialize and make things make sense.

But no one came, and the forest remained quiet. Feniea let out a deep sigh and lowered her gaze to the ground, feeling a sense of loneliness wash over her. She missed Kärlek and the children terribly, and she wondered if they ever thought of her as well.

It was warm enough, Valentina supposed. If the sun came out, it might even be hot by afternoon, which was perfect. Valentina wanted to spend time by the lake today, to rehydrate and fish and stock up for whatever the next few days might bring. Spending winter in the mountainous valley had been hard, but she had been glad for the challenge. It made her tougher, less lax.

Val scented the stranger before she saw her, and slowed her pace. Cautious and guarded, but not aggressive. Open to seeing what the woman had to say, perhaps, but not overtly friendly.

Fortunate for Feniea, solitude was not her companion on that particular day. Instead, she found herself face-to-face with a dark wolf whose presence initially sent a shiver down her spine. Her entire body tensed, fur standing on end, and her eyes widened before narrowing with suspicion. As she observed the stranger, she realized it was not him. The eyes held a different gaze, the features a distinct countenance, and the wolf was unmistakably a female. A faint, almost imperceptible huff escaped Feniea as she struggled to contain her exasperation amidst the whirlwind of thoughts swirling in her mind.

The stranger's neutral stance did little to alleviate Feniea's unease. How she longed for Kärlek's protective presence, a stalwart guardian who would shield her or offer unwavering support. Alas, she stood alone, and in that moment, she straightened her posture and took a deep breath. Her rust and black-hued fur glistened, despite the fraying of her emotional state. As she gathered herself and shifted her paws, she exuded a royal aura, reminiscent of a regal spirit from a bygone era. Her sharp yellow eyes scrutinized the newcomer, leaving no detail unnoticed.

"Is there a purpose to your presence?" she inquired with a hint of primness, unafraid to assert her claim over the ground she now stood upon.

She was instantly miffed. Valentina didn't take well to ego blows or rude strangers. Her presence was a gift, obviously, and if she had chosen to bless another with it, they should be grateful.

She rotated one of her ears back but seemed otherwise unfazed. "There is always a purpose to my presence," she responded evenly. "I would like to know more about you and your purpose."
