Miasma is officially open and accepting character applications! Our community will remain closed for now, but we plan to open up invitations to other writers in a few weeks. With this decision, however, keep in mind that things here will be extremely slow plot-wise. Have patience for your fellow writers and enjoy your time with each other. Aside from that, a few other notes we'd like to address are outlined in our Discord announcements.

In the meantime you are still able to write on the jcink boards. If you are stumbling upon this page, welcome! Please check out our discord.

Lucifer had been lucky, he had stumbled on a deer carcass that looked relatively untouched. Normally he tried to avoid carcass' but he had bee traveling for a while and it had been a few days since his last meal. It was still cold enough that the meat shouldn't have started rotting, at least not as fast as it would have during the warm and hot seasons. He slowly sniffed around the dead deer. scenting and looking for any sign that disease is what took this creatures life, rather than the cold or old age. He could still feel a little warmth coming off the deer, letting him know that it had not been dead for too long which meant the meat should still be fresh. His stomach gave a loud growl, letting him know that he had inspected the feast long enough, it was time to dine. So without wasting much tome he tore into the deers stomach getting past the fur and skin to the organs inside. As hungry as he was though he was still cautious, testing the meat ion his tongue and smelling everything once more, just to be sure it wasn't rotten or infected. The last thing he needed was to become ill because he was too impatient.

He had eaten almost as much as he could tolerate and was debating what to do with the rest of the carcass. He could just leave it here and keep it for himself, hope that no other wolves or scavengers would come along between now and when he wanted his next meal, he could waste energy trying to drag what was left to a secluded spot and again hope that it remained undetected, or he could send up a call. See if there were other wolves in the area, ones that have not been lucky enough to catch a meal for themselves. There was still plenty of meat left on this deer, and he doubted, with the amount that he just consumed, that he would be needing to eat something like again before the meat froze solid or began to rot. He supposed it would be rude to not see if there were others in the area that were hungry like him. After all he is not the one who brought the deer down, so it wasn't like it was his kill to protect. And it wasn't like her had a pack or mate to feed yet.

So with his decision being made Luci threw back his head and let a howl rip from his chest. Letting all that could hear know that there was an easy meal to be had should they need it. He would hang around and protect the carcass from any other scavenger and see who showed up.

A howl. Rudolph was in the area, but he wasn’t dumb enough to answer a call from a stranger. If anything, it made him uneasy. Were there packs around?

He hadn’t scented any borders, but with the prevalent snow, he was certain they could easily be missed. There was, however, something else he couldn’t resist investigating: the smell of a carcass. If another wolf was howling, it would be risky to investigate the scent of meat. In the wintertime though, the risk was certainly worth the potential reward. Even if a pack or a group of wolves laid claim to getting first bite, he could hang around until they finished and try to sneak a bite in after they cleared out.

Maybe. Or he’d get the shit beaten out of him. Time would tell; Rudolph was going to try.

He did not send a call of his own, but rather trotted closer to the scent and, when he was close enough to scent at least one wolf nearby, he slowed to creep the rest of the way.

Upon arriving, he could see only one wolf, guarding the carcass. Rudolph stopped to watch, to see if anyone else would arrive.

Luci saw the stranger approach then stop. He couldn't blame the new male, he would have been cautious too if he had answered the call of a lone male and there was food involved. If the newcomer wanted food he didn't want his presence to cause them to go hungry so he slowly got up and started to walk towards the woodbine, away from the carcass, giving the new comber plenty of room to come into the clearing and eat without having to turn his back on Luci. Once he reached what he deemed to be a good distance away he stretched his body, hoping to put the new comber at ease and relax enough to come and eat his fill.

"Feel free to eat your fill" He called, breaking the silence. "I didn't bring it down, but it is fresh. I already ate my fill and thought I would share with any other wolves that happened to be around. I was just guarding it to make sure no other scavengers got to it before anyone else could get here. Would it be alright if I stayed?"

He didn't really want to move on, but nor would he hang around if the other wolf refused to come near the deer and feed in his presence. He would not be being this considerate if this had been a kill of his own, but since it wasn't and he was new in this valley, and he would hope that someone would extend the same courtesy to him should he need it, he decided to be on his best behavior's with this new encounter.
